| ANS Newsletter (Fall 1999): The ANS Welcomes New Staff |
Richard Dodd joined the ANS on August 18, 1999, as Accounting Manager. Richard has extensive experience in commercial and non-profit fund accounting. He has held the position of Chief Financial Officer of several non-profit organizations. Most recently, he served as Financial Consultant to the Swiss Institute, a non-profit cultural organization in Soho. He is a graduate of Long Island University with a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting management.
Richard's immediate responsibilities with the ANS are to complete the financial reports, audits and information tax returns for the fiscal year just ended. Subsequently, he will supervise the installation of the ANS’s newly acquired Blackbaud accounting software and design improved accounting reports. He will be involved in financial statement development, internal and external financial reports, improved internal controls, audit preparation, bank financing, business plans, budgeting, cash management and employee benefits.
Sebastian Heath
As a result of the initiative of Harry Bass, Jr. the ANS began its web-site in 1996. With information about the Society and its activities, as well as a searchable database of the Society’s coin collection, the web-site is an important component of our outreach efforts to members and the general public. Ed Deane did much of the work on the current site and deserves many thanks for his efforts. On-line resources need maintenance, however, and that is just what we are doing at the ANS.
Sebastian Heath, a graduate student in Classical Archaeology at the University of Michigan, has been hired to work on both the content and appearance of our web- pages. The first step was moving the site to http://www.amnumsoc.org/ from the old address. He is redesigning and reorganizing existing content to be in place by the new year. In preparation for the move to 140 William Street, he is also preparing an entirely new interface to the Society's coin database and is working with Sharon Suchma, our photographer, to make images of all our coins publicly available on the internet. Early versions of this work should be useable before next October but full deployment requires the improved network access we will enjoy at the new building.
We hope that these efforts will make the Society a leader amongst museums using the internet to serve the public. Of course, we need your feedback to know how you use the site and how we can make it better so please send suggestions and comment to Sebastian Heath at heath@amnumsoc.org.
