American Numismatic Society Solicits Applicants for Advisory Group

The American Numismatic Society ("ANS") solicits applicants for an advisory group. The ANS, organized in 1858, seeks to advance the study and appreciation of coins, medals and related objects. It is anticipated that the new body will help the Society's Council and staff face future challenges. Members will act as a focus group for the Society. They will also serve as liaisons with the ANS membership, and assist the Society in evaluating its own performance.

The advisory group will consist of seven members. Three candidates will be chosen from recommendations made by the current ANS Council. Plans are for four additional candidates to be selected from applications to be reviewed by the Council's governance committee. All candidates should demonstrate a commitment to the Society and will be chosen to reflect and balance the interests of collectors, academics, and professional numismatists.

Adivsory Group membership may entail a substantial time commitment. Also, group members may be expected to bear most of the monetary costs of communicating within the group or to the Council.

Those interested in applying should send an original and six copies of a resume and cover letter by May 10, 2001 to:
